The Iroquois is a wonderful book that will help teachers and students to better understand the Iroquois, or as we prefer to call ourselves the Haudenosaunee (The People of the Longhouse). The topics contained in the book include: Original Homelands, Society, Homes, Food, Clothing, Crafts, Family, Children, Myths, War, Important Members, Contact with Europeans, The Nation/Tribe Today. There is also Native American artwork, photos, and recommended Web sites for further research.
I think the book has an excellent map depicting the homelands and there are actual photos of a longhouse that shows the outside before the roof is added, the completed house, and the inside. The artwork and photos include tools, weapons, and more. If you cannot afford to get the book for yourself, please ask your library to order it. Although the age range says from 4 to 8, I believe this book is a must have for anyone wanting to learn more about the Iroquois.
